Ball tampering gathers momentum
ELMO Rodrigopulle reporting from Australia
The alleged ball tampering issue by the Australians which appeared in
the ‘DAILY NEWS’ on Monday, was big news in the media box and among
other mediamen, here today.
The alleged ball tampering had, it is reported had taken place on the
second session of day three when Peter Siddle was bowling to Sri Lankan
batsman Prasanna Jayewardene.
An ICC media release says that Match Referee Chris Broad is aware of
the media reports coming from Sri Lanka on the ball tampering issue.
An official release said that no official complaint has been made by
the Sri Lanka team. The Sri Lankan Management believes broadcast cameras
may have captured Siddle using his fingers to raise the seam of the ball
in the 88th over of Sri Lanka’s innings, while bowling to Prasanna
Jayawardene.
Suspicions were raised when the Sri Lanka management received the
video feed back in real time in the second session on day three. ‘We
recorded the game and its there for everybody to see. We saw something
illegal and have reacted to that. I have spoken to Match Referee Broad
informally. It’s up to them to act now, but we will have to pursue it
further if nothing happens’ said Manage of the Sri Lanka team Charith
Senanayeke.
