to the United Nations in Geneva Ravinatha Aryasinha, who is
concurrently accredited to the Holy See, presented his
credentials to His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI at the
Apostolic Palace at the Vatican recently. |

External Affairs Minister Prof.
G.L.Peiris addressed Ambassadors, High Commissioners
and Consuls at his Ministry yesterday. The minister briefed
the diplomatic community on
a wide range of issues related to current initiatives in
both the political and economic spheres. Deputy Minister
Neomal Perera and Ministry Secretary Thilak Amunugma were
also present. |

The Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in
Uganda Kana V Kananathan yesterday met the President of the
Republic of South Sudan Gen Salva Kirr Mayardit at the
Presidential Palace in the capital of South Sudan, Juba.
Kananathan was in Juba to deliver a special message to the
President of South Sudan from President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The President of South Sudan and the Hon Consul discussed in
length the developing and furthering the bonds between the
two nations. During the meeting, President Kirr also
approved the establishing of formal diplomatic relations
with Sri Lanka. This is a milestone for Sri Lanka.
Kananathan said this is a clear reflection of the great
vision of President Rajapaksa's policy on Africa. President
Salva Kiirr commended President Rajapakse for bringing peace
and prosperity to Sri Lanka by defeating terrorism. South
Sudan which has substantial oil reserves is considered the
17th fastest growing economy, economic experts say. |
