Falling earth mound kills three-year-old

A three-year-old baby girl died and her mother and five year-old brother were injured and admitted to the Teldeniya district hospital when a mound of earth fell on their house and damaged their bedroom in an earthslip at Peraketiya, Teldeniya in the wee hours yesterday.

The girl's father and nine-year-old brother who were also sleeping on the same bed had escaped unhurt.

The deceased was identified as Nethuni Kavindya, Teldeniya police is investigating. Meanwhile, two persons died when a heavy mound of earth fell on the three wheel taxi they were travelling hurtling it down a 700 feet precipe at Elamalpotha on the Kandy Udadumbara road on December 17 night.

The two victims were identified as Kiribanda Samarakoon a member of the Civil Defence Force and Batagallegedara Wijetilleke, an ex-soldier, both residents of Kiripattiya, Uda Dumbara. Uda Dumbara police is investigating.
