NCE business delegation to Myanmar

The National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka will be leading a business delegation to The Republic of the Union of Myanmar during the period December 19 to 23, 2012 to promote two way trade by exploiting export opportunities and sourcing of inputs for exports.

Sri Lanka and Myanmar are bound by ancient and historical links, reinforced by the common Buddhist heritage that unites the peoples of the two countries. Although the volume of trade between Myanmar and Sri Lanka is relatively very low at present, according to the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, trade could expand swiftly.

According to the Department of Customs the following products are exported to Myanmar. Tea, nutmeg, mace, used tyres (retreaded), paints (enamels, lacquers, distempers), articles of apparel and clothing accessories, cotton fabrics, boards, panels, consoles, precious and semi-precious stones, medicament, stuffed pasta etc.

The population of Myanmar was estimated to be 52.4 million as at July, 2003, and the population growth rate stood as 1.84 percent.

Meetings for the NCE delegation in Myanmar will be arranged by the Federation of Chambers of Commerce & industry of Myanmar (UMFCCI) , Myanmar Economic Holdings and the Sri Lankan Mission in Myanmar. Meetings and Business contacts will be arranged between members of the delegation and businessmen and entrepreneurs in the Myanmar private sector. It is also proposed to visit the 2012 Myanmar Int'l Machinery Industrial Fair, Myanmar International Agriculture Techniques & Water Treatment Exhibition; Myanmar International Food Tech Industry Exhibition, Myanmar International Packaging Industry Exhibition & Myanmar International Plastics and Rubber Industry Exhibition. These Trade Exhibitions will take place during the proposed visit dates.

NCE delegation consists of the following companies and representatives - Daya Wahalatantiri & Hiran A S Madanayake of ACL Cables PLC, Prasanna K Jayasinghe of Concord Apparel (Pvt) Ltd, Thanuje Munasinghe of Samson Industries (Pvt) Ltd , Ajith P Gunasekara of Dutch Lanka Trailer Manufacturers Ltd, Lushantha De Silva of Empire Teas (PVT) Ltd, M Imdadh Marikar of Expolanka (Pvt) Limited, Indhra Kaushal Rajapaksa of Kalhari Enterprises, Achala D Lamasuriya of Stassen Exports (PVT) Ltd, D G P S Abeygunawardana of Samson International PLC. and L.N. Deshantha Silva of Alpha Indutries (PVT) LTD. The delegation will be led by M. Shiham Marikar - Director Trade Promotion of NCE.
