The Judiciary is an independent
institution. In the wake of an unsuccessful protest
launched by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BAS L) against
the impeachment of the Chief Justice which is totally
constitutional, BAS L president Wijedasa Rajapaksa was seen
enjoying a drama with Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake at
the Neethi Ranga Prasangaya at Elphinstone Theatre

Ven. Korase Mahinda Nayake Thera,
Viharadhipati Sri Sugathawamaramaya, Temple Road, Maradana
who has been conferred the ‘Vidya Vibhooshana’ honorary
title by the Education Department in recognition of his
services towards Pirivena education receives the Sannasa
bearing the honorary title from Dayawansa Jayakody at a

Rifti Mohommed Riswan who became
first in the international Holy Quran recital contest in
Mecca, Saudi Arabia returned to the country on Wednesday.
Eighty six countries participated in the contest. This is
the first time a Sri Lankan become first in this
international annual contest. Buddhist and Religious Affairs
Deputy Minister M K D S Gunawardena, Western Province
Governor Alavi Mowlana, Parliamentarian A H M Azwer and
Presidential Advisor on Muslim Religious Affairs Hassan

Cafts manufactured by students of the Kalutara Uggalboda
Cultural Centre was declared open by the Kalutara Divisional
