Death of former Senior Vice President MEP
The funeral of Attorney D.A. Ranawaka, former Senior Vice President
of the MEP and leading activist of the Left Movement who died recently
will be held at the Minuwanpitiya Cemetery, Panadura on December 15. His
remains are lying at his residence at 125, Kuruppumulla, Panadura for
the public to pay respects.
MEP General Secretary Karunatilleke Dissanayake in a condolence
message said the death of D.A. Ranawaka, a senior Vice President of the
party is a great loss to the Left Movement in Sri Lanka. He had rendered
a great national and social service by engaging in the progressive
movement along with other left leaders of the country. The most bitter
experience of his life was the death of his son Kithsiri Mewan Ranawaka
during the Police shooting at the May Day rally held at the Abhayaramaya,
Narahenpita in 1987.
He had worked closely with MEP leader Minister Dinesh Gunawardena as
a Party Central Committee member until his demise.
The MEP wished to express its deepest sympathies to his grieving wife
and family members.
