Sri Pada pilgrimage begins on Dec. 27
The Sri Pada pilgrimage season will begin on December 27 at 12.00
midnight - Udupwap full moon poya day. It will end on Poson full moon
poya day in May next year.
A procession, carrying the statue of God Saman, will reach Sri Pada
via Rathnapura, Hatton, Maskeliya and Nallathanni.
Livestock and Rural Community Development Minister Arumugan Thondaman
visited the chief incumbents of Pothgul Rajamaha Vihara, Pelmadulla
Rajamaha Vihara and the Sri Pada temple, to discuss measures to
facilitate the pilgrimage.
The casket, which will be taken to Nallathanni, will be on exposition
at several areas for public to pay homage. In addition special transport
facilities, healthcare services, and security measures will be in place
for the pilgrims' benefit.
Economic Development, Deputy Minister Muththu Sivalingam, and
Minister's Private Secretary Cader were also present.
