Radampola new town opened
The Radampola new town built in keeping with its ancient rural beauty
was opened by Hambantota district MP Namal Rajapaksa on the invitation
of Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma by
unveiling a plaque 12 seconds before 12 midnight on December 12.
MP Rajapaksa later unveiled the new clock tower while Southern
Province Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal de Silva renamed Radampola
Kirineliya Road as Ven Babarende Sri Sumangala Ratanajothi Nayake Thera
Mawatha by unveiling its new name board.
The new town electricity supply scheme was thereafter commissioned by
Economic Development Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena and
Provincial Ministers Chandima Rasaputra and D V Upul.
A colourful fireworks display followed at the strike of midnight on
the new clock tower.
Thereafter, a seth pirith chanting by the Maha Sangha was held at a
pirith mandapaya built near the pond.
Sri Lankan ambassador to Sweden Oshadi Alahapperuma carried the
casket of relics to the pirith mandapaya and MP Rajapaksa invited the
Maha Sangha to commence the pirith chanting by offering the traditional
deheth wattiya.
A musical show featuring patriotic songs was also held earlier from
9pm to 11.25pm.
