The Export Agriculture Department has commenced a special training
programme for cinnamon cultivators on cinnamon plantation management and
harvest preparation under the species and related crops promotion
programme launched by its Estate Plantation Division.
The inauguration ceremony of the three day training programme will be
held at the Cinnamon Research Institute in Palolpitiya, Matara on
December 18.
Export Agriculture Department Director General W D L Gunaratne said
the programme's main objective is to make cinnamon farming more
efficient, introduce an environmental friendly farming procedure and
grant a healthy cinnamon product to the market.
The training programmes will be held free of charge. Participants are
to be trained to cultivate cinnamon plants, maintain plants in the
field, cinnamon plantations management, harvesting, preparing
harvesting, storing and presenting to the market, he said. The programme
is to be launched islandwide.
