Radampola gets new town today

Several additions thanks to Minister Alahapperuma:

Radampola, a remote village in the Matara district, will get a new town today.

Radampola is a vast town today

The market-place at Radampola had its origins with a small tea-boutique. It is on record that traditional agricultural products of difficult areas of Radampola were brought to the weekly fair, by cart. The road network joining Rathmale, Hunnadeniya, Wehella Dickwella, Kakandura, Beliatta etc, ran through Radampola junction making it a popular spot. People living around Radampola had to reach Radampola junction, because it was strategically located.

As such, to appease the thirst of the people who traveled, a tea boutique was set up. Radampola town today is replete with fine shop complexes, a pond, clock tower and several other constructions, bringing this old town into limelight. Radampola today is a vast town. In place of dilapidated and worn - out buildings, a town replete with modern shops complexes and constructions have come up.

The pioneer of this transition is Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Allahapperuma. He launched several projects to create a new Radampola. All roads approaching Radampola have been widened and carpeted.

The Urban Development Authority constructed a clock tower and a drainage system. The pond on the southern side of the town enhances the beauty of the area while the Samurdhi Bank assists the not-so-affluent. Radampola has a spectacular finesse, not seen in many other traditional towns. One reason for it is the beautifying of parks, launched by the Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority.

Rs 19 million was spent to construct the new bus stand. The raw material were obtained freely.

The Weligama Urban Council chairman provided 20,000 grass sods free to facilitate the work. The equipment and labour were provided free by the Weligama and Dickwella Urban Councils.

The Tangalle fisheries harbour, the Southern Province Road Development Authority, the Ceylon Electricity Board and the Armed Forces have contributed to develop Radmapola.
