New Instrumental Compositions for North Indian Music
Sri Lankan students studying North Indian Classical Music and sitting
for Prathama, Madhyama and Visharad exams (especially those of musical
instruments) conducted by the Bhathkande Vidyapith of India, were till
now, confined to books written in the Hindi language when searching for
those written for the practical element of such music.
The lack of a book covering the entire syllabus added to their woes
by creating a void in their studies.
Shastrapati Anil Mihiripenna has now authored a book that will solve
these problems faced by Sri Lankan students. The book titled ‘New
Instrumental Compositions for North Indian Music’ covers all elements
pertaining to the practical music exams of the Bhathkande University of
India and also all practical music exams conducted in Sri Lanka.
Further, it is a notable fact that an Indian Publisher has now sought
and published twice the work of a Sri Lankan author.
The book, written in simple English with the syllabus very much in
mind, is easily readable and easy to understand. It includes the
following contents in detail, et al, shown here in summary:
1. The musical compositions for various musical instruments such as
Violin, Flute and Sitar for playing the Ragas.
2. These musical compositions are in different layas (speeds).
3. A Complete selection of musical notes (scores) for playing musical
instruments, and
4. Details of all Ragas and related Aalapas.
New Instrumental Compositions for North Indian Music is the sixth
book on Indian Classical Music composed by Shastrapati Anil Mihiripenna.
