LPA land at Galle Port leased out for ship building facility
Approval was granted to lease a portion of land at the Galle Port for
the Yacht/Leisure Craft Repair and Ship Building Facility on a 30 year
lease basis to M/s Sea Gulf (Pvt) Ltd who had forwarded an unsolicited
proposal to construct a yacht/leisure craft lifting facility and the
barge mounted yacht/leisure craft repair facility at the Port of Galle
on a proposal by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as the
Ports and Highways Minister.
The Cabinet of Ministers also granted approval for Sri Lanka Ports
Authority to sign the business agreement with Sea Gulf Shipyard (Pvt)
Ltd.
Action plan for procurement of pharmaceuticals
Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena's proposal to implement an
Action Plan for the Procurement of Pharmaceuticals, prepared in
consultation with the Standing Cabinet Appointed Committee for
Pharmaceuticals (SCAPPC), to eliminate shortcomings in the process of
procurement of pharmaceuticals, was approved by the Cabinet.
National Health Week - 2012
Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena's proposal to declare December
10 to 17, 2012 as the 'National Health Week - 2012' with the
participation of the health workforce consisting of more than 1,000
employees of different categories and with the involvement of the
political authority, religious leaders, public and private sectors and
social entities to make the public aware of healthcare facilities
provided by health services in the country, was approved by the Cabinet.
Construction of multi - faceted hotel complex in Colombo
The proposed multi-faceted hotel complex will consist of 30 floors,
475 rooms and 90 service apartments. The total investment would be
around US $ 159 million. Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa's
proposal to seek Parliament approval to treat this as a strategic
development project in terms of the provisions of the Strategic
Development Project Act No 14 of 2008, was approved by the Cabinet.
National Safety Day - 2012 commemoration
The objective of this event is to increase awareness of disasters
among the public and the manner in which they should prepare,
particularly in response to disasters such as the December 26, 2004
tsunami.
Commemorative ceremonies have been held continuously for the past six
years in Galle, Ratnapura, Kandy, Kurunegala, Jaffna and Batticaloa
districts.
Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera's proposal to
commemorate the National Safety Day - 2012 centered around Badulla
district, in association with the relevant ministries and institutions,
was approved by the Cabinet.
Construction of Seed Certification and Plant Protection Centre
Cabinet approval was granted to design, construct and monitor the
above centres at Paranthan, Jaffna and Katunayake to be done by the
Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB) at Rs 88 million, Rs 31
million and Rs 45 million on Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa
Abeywardena's proposal.
Construction of Provincial and District Sport Complexes - Southern
Province
Cabinet approval was granted to develop a sport complex to conduct
sports activities in keeping with international standards and to provide
funds for Medium Term Budgetary Framework 2013 - 2015 to implement the
project in stages within three to five years on Sports Minister
Mahindananda Aluthgamage's proposal to construct a Football and Rugby
Ground at the Southern Province National Sports Complex at Sooriyawewa.
