Bengali saree collection by Bai Lou
A special collection, featuring traditional Bengali weaving
techniques from the Bai Lou studio in Bengal were on exhibition at
Rithihi few weeks back.
The collection titled 'Free Flying', typical of the signature Bai Lou
style conveys the subtle beauty of woven structures and the endless
possibilities of the loom finished textile.
Bai Lou sarees are extremely popular and constantly make the
headlines with the likes of Bollywood actors and other top names wearing
it. Known for their trademark weaving technique - close to that followed
by the royal looms of the Bengali aristocracy, the sarees encompass a
radical blend of techniques and rich, vibrant hues.
At Rithihi, the signature collection featured exquisite silks woven
using the ancient Japanese shibori technique; geometric, floral patterns
in the Abir Jamdani collection, Andhra Pradesh's Telia sarees and Angami
Tribe inspired 'Naga' collection.
Rithihi has also been the melting pot for contemporary Sri Lankan
designers ranging from silver jewellers to saree designers and weavers.
