Move to revive cooperative movement

President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the government, has been endeavouring
to review the country's cooperative movement which was weakened by the
open economy, said North Central Province Chief Minister Ranjith
Samarakoon after opening the Anuradhapura Mahailluppallama Coop City
sales centre recently.
The Chief Minister said the provincial council on par with the
Mahinda Chintana future vision, has planned to promote the provincial
cooperative movement linking it to the livelihood empowerment programmes
implemented by Governmental and Non Governmental Organizations.
The cooperative movement is the world's most powerful people's
organization which teaches the importance of unity, coexistence and
equality which is a strong base to build up society.
It has been planned to develop cooperative societies' bank training
centres for the benefit of the rural community, the chief minister said.
