President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the government, has been endeavouring to review the country's cooperative movement which was weakened by the open economy, said North Central Province Chief Minister Ranjith Samarakoon after opening the Anuradhapura Mahailluppallama Coop City sales centre recently.

The Chief Minister said the provincial council on par with the Mahinda Chintana future vision, has planned to promote the provincial cooperative movement linking it to the livelihood empowerment programmes implemented by Governmental and Non Governmental Organizations.

The cooperative movement is the world's most powerful people's organization which teaches the importance of unity, coexistence and equality which is a strong base to build up society.

It has been planned to develop cooperative societies' bank training centres for the benefit of the rural community, the chief minister said.
