Trishaw carrying 14 passengers nabbed

Mahawela Police detected a three wheeler transporting 14 passengers including pre-school children and a woman and arrested the driver for flouting traffic laws in carrying passengers exceeding the mandatory limit.

Under normal traffic laws, only three passengers in addition to the driver is allowed in a three wheel taxi. The three wheeler was heading towards Palapathwala from Mahawela.

Three of the children were sitting in the driving seat in addition to the driver and two others were seated on the deck behind the driving seat. Police said the driver was due to be produced in court. Investigations are continuing.
