Teachers' boycott a flop
Dharma Sri Abeyratne
The schools boycott organised by certain teacher trade unions proved
a damp squib with a large number of teachers reporting for duty in spite
of the trade union action billed for yesterday.
Representatives of 16 teacher and principals' trade unions kept away
applying for sick leave .
School sources pointed out that the trade union action was not
successful since most of the teachers reported for duty as usual and
engaged in school work .
Meanwhile, Education Deputy Minister Vijith Wijayamuni Zoysa also
said that school activities were not affected despite the boycott Lanka
Teachers Union making six demands.
According to the Lanka Teachers Union General Secretary Joseph
Stalin, they will continue their trade union action if no action is
taken to address their grievances.
