Sri Lanka thanks Japan for post Tsunami support
Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa yesterday thanked the
government and the people of Japan for helping Sri Lanka after the
country was hit by the 2004 tsunami.
Minister Rajapaksa said that the two countries have very close and
cordial relations in many fields including culture. Minister Rajapaksa
made these observations when he met Japanese Foreign Ministry Deputy
Director General for South Asian Region Kanji Yamanouchi at the Economic
Development Ministry.
The Japanese government representative extended his gratitude to the
government and people of Sri Lanka for the support extended in the
aftermath of recent tsunami in Japan and the Fukushima nuclear disaster.
Kanji while welcoming the peaceful atmosphere in the country in the
aftermath of a protracted conflict, stressed that Japan is ready to
share its technological expertise with Sri Lanka.Kanji said that Japan
will explore more investment opportunities in Sri Lanka. Japanese
Ambassador in Sri Lanka Nobuhito Hobo was also present.
