CJ appears before PSC for second time:
Apparently, a challenging day for her...
Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake appeared before the
Parliamentary Select Committee hearing the Impeachment Motion against
her yesterday to make her submissions and it is rumoured that several
challenging and damning facts have been disclosed during yesterday’s
hearings.
Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa presided at the eleven member PSC
which included seven members from the government side and four members
from the opposition.
At this hearing the Chief Justice made written submissions and the
answers given by her for oral questions raised are expected to be the
subject matter for much controversy in the future.
Reports said the Chief Justice had to reveal certain hitherto
undisclosed and unknown facts in addition to the financial transactions
which formed the basis of the impeachment motion against her. A
spokesman describing yesterday’s PSC hearings said it achieved a
satisfactory level of progress which would deprive any party the
opportunity to challenge the role of the PSC appointed to safeguard the
supremacy of democracy in this country and the transparency of its legal
framework in future.
