The International conference on Advances in ICT for Emerging Regions
(ICTer 2012) organized by the University of Colombo School of Computing
(UCSC), will be held on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th of December 2012
at BMICH , Colombo.
The International Conference on Advances in ICT for Emerging Regions
(ICTer) is the successor to the seminal International Information
Technology Conference held in Sri Lanka since 1998, the IITC. IITC and
the ICTer, a premier gathering for those working in the field of IT, has
been able to attract more and more delegates each year from different
parts of the world. ICTer2011 was held last year with resounding and
remarkable success where several advanced concepts in ICT were
introduced and led to start off of many innovative research projects
throughout the region.
ICTer, one of the topmost ICT conferences held annually, promotes
computing research in the fast emerging regions of the world especially
in Asia-Pacific by bringing together local and foreign IT professionals
from well renowned universities and the industry. This year's conference
provides a forum for local and foreign academia, industry practitioners
and students to keep up-to -date with current advanced technology trends
and network with peers. Hence ICTer2012 will be an excellent opportunity
for professional development and networking.
This year the conference focuses on several important areas such as
Language Processing, Image Processing and Virtual Reality, Systems and
Performance evaluation, e-learning, Knowledge based Systems and Machine
Learning and Social Applications. The Delegates will be addressed by
several keynote speakers and guest speakers. Keynote speeches will be
delivered by Professor R.K. Shyamsunder, Senior Professor & JC Bose
National Fellow, Faculty of Technology & Computer Science, Tata
Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, INDIA; Dr. George Weir,
Lecturer, Department of Computer and Information Sciences, University of
Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK and Professor Love Ekenberg, Headof Dept. of
Computer and Systems Sciences, Stockholm University, Sweden.
ICTer2012 comprises two parallel sessions for author presentations:
Day 1 session A includes Language Processing and Systems and Performance
Evaluation. Session B includes Image Processing and Virtual Reality and
Web and Software Technology. On Day 2 session A will be on e-Learning
while session B on Knowledge based systems and Machine Learning and
Social Applications.
In addition to the general sessions a series of workshops are
scheduled for 12th and 15th December in University of Colombo School of
Computing.
A full day student symposium will also be held at the University of
Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) on 15th December as part of the
ICTer2012 Conference. Selected undergraduate and postgraduate
research/project work will be presented and demonstrated in the
Symposium.
