Death of L B U de Silva – Buddhist Social Worker
Liyanachchi Bertram Upali de Silva, Life Member and former Hony.
Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the German Dharmaduta Society,
passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 02, 2012. He was 82 years of
age.
He was an old boy of both Rahula Vidyalaya, Matara and Ananda
College, Colombo.
A Chartered Accountant by profession, the late Mr. de Silva commenced
his career at Messrs. B.R. de Silva, Colombo, reputed firm of
Accountants, and later served as an Accountant at the Ceylon Salt
Corporation, as Chief Administrative Officer of the Sugar Cane Research
Institute, and finally as Secretary of the Sri Lanka Turf Club.
He took an active interest in the work of the German Dharmaduta
Society (2000 – 2007) as the Hony. Secretary of its Board of Trustees
including paying a visit to the Berlin Vihara (Das Buddhistische Haus)
in Berlin – Frohnau, Germany and attendance at an International Buddhist
Conference on the theme ‘Old Age, Disease and Death’ organized by the
Deutsche Buddhistische Union ( German Buddhist Union) in Frankfurt, in
2004.
L.B.U. de Silva also engaged himself in Rehabilitation work in
Tsunami affected areas on behalf of the German Dharmaduta Society.
He was also closely associated with the activities of the Old
Anandians’ Association and Old Boys Association of Rahula Vidyalaya,
Matara.
He leaves his wife and one son, Tisara.
The remains of Mr. de Silva will be kept for viewing at his residence
at No. 13, Ratnayake Mawatha, Pelawatte, Battaramulla.
The Funeral will take place at General Cemetery, Kanatte, at 5.00
p.m. on Tuesday, December 04.
May he attain Nibbana.
