Macbertan awarded Energy Management System ISO 50001: 2011

Macbertan (Private) Limited, the pioneer in the Manufacturing of Heat
Insulation Product Category in Sri Lanka was awarded the Energy
Management System ISO 50001: 2011 by the Sri Lanka Standards
Institution.
This is the first ever company in Sri Lanka, to receive such an
award. Director General of Macbertan, Dr. Seneviratne said that this was
the first time that a company that produces energy efficient goods that
had been awarded the above award.
“This award though not a necessity yet will soon be one for many
companies and I am glad that we were the first to set an example of this
sort,” he said after being awarded the certificate at a ceremony on
November 8, 2012. Macbertan is already certified for ISO 9001: 2008 –
Quality Management Systems, ISO 14001: 2004 Environment Management
Systems and OHSAS 18001: 2007 – Occupational Health and Safety
Management Systems. This certificate was given to the measures they took
recognizing the increasing energy costs in their manufacturing plant in
Ja- ela.
The energy policy of the company was put in place, and a steering
committee comprising five engineers from Macbertan Technical team were
appointed to implement and achieve the companies energy saving
objectives.
Meanwhile, Director General Sri Lanka Standards Institute, Dr.
Sugathapala said that they hope to save Rs 135 billion in energy
management in the next five years.
“This is not just an achievement for Macbertan it is an achievement
for us too as we issued this certificate,” he said.
He also said that the institute is focusing on issuing a few rules to
all energy consuming entities, “Macbertan by gaining this certificate
has made an example for all companies and this is not all this will also
help us in reaching our target in the next 5 years,” he said.
Starting from next year, the Sri Lanka Standards Institute will
enforce rules on all energy consuming entities to have a management to
control energy consuming, “we also plan on issuing a new certificate
next year grading the energy management in companies,” he said. |
