HIA ready for ‘takeoff’
Sri Lanka’s second international airport,
Hambantota International Airport, (HIA) is now ready for flights and
it could accommodate the world’s biggest A380 aircraft. The
communication tower which is a world’s first, constructed depicting
a lotus is now ready with all the required communication equipment
been installed. In addition the runway and the taxi way too has been
completed ahead of schedule.

‘Lanka’s IT sector on $ 1 bn path’
The IT industry brings in approximately $ 430
million of export revenue annually and is now the fifth foreign
currency earner of the country, said Jayantha de Silva, IFS Managing
Director Sri Lanka and VP South Asia. “We have about 60,000 IT
personnel and 300 IT related companies in Sri Lanka,” he said
addressing a ceremony held to mark the 15 year presence of IFS in
Sri Lanka.

‘Competent management structures vital for state enterprises’
State commercial enterprises must be made profit
centred by making them key players in the capital formation. This
requires no privatization, but the introduction of competent
management structures, Treasury Secretary Dr P B Jayasundara said.
He made these sentiments delivering the keynote speech at the ‘First
International Research Conference of the Sri Lanka Forum of
University Economics.’

award ceremony at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore November 29.
Forbes Asia’s “Best under a Billion” are Asia Pacific’s top midsized
companies. According to Forbes, the criteria of selection included
profitability, growth, modest indebtedness and future prospects.
