Getting that run out was crucial for us - Taylor
Ranjan Anandappa
Soon after the win the New Zealand captain Ross Taylor in press
briefing said that It's one victory. We did not want to get too carried
away. But we want to enjoy the moment because we have played some very
good cricket over five days. Sri Lanka pushed us at times and we showed
some good resilience in periods.

In Galle when we were under pressure we folded, but here when we were
under pressure, different people stood up at different times and
performed. That is what happens in good teams. We just need to be more
consistent especially with Lanka having a slight chance to draw.
Getting that run out was crucial for us. "Samaraweera is a very good
batsman and can bat long periods of time. And to get that run out after
a long period of time helped us. We are a very pleased team and we know
that hopefully this is the start of something.
That has been a part of New Zealand cricket. The batsmen have had a
lot of criticism over time and we haven't really had the bowlers to get
20 wickets in some Test matches. The three quicks that we have got at
the moment are very exciting and very young. I guess in Test cricket
that's an exciting path. I guess you've got to give credit to Tim
Southee. He led the bowling line up very well. Trent Boult has only
played a handful of games, but he continues to improve each match. Even
the two wickets that Doug Bracewell got in the final innings were two
crucial wickets. Sangakkara and Jayawardene can bat a couple of days if
they want to, so it's nice to be able to get them out early.
I thought he had a very good effect on the team. We have two left-arm
quicks and he worked well with them but also with the other bowlers. He
fitted into the group really well and gave Shane Bond some insight into
conditions in the subcontinent. We thank Vaasy for his help to our team
and I am sure we'll be a better bowling unit as a result because of it.
