A delegation comprising six Parliamentary representatives led by
David Vodrazka, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Czech
Republic, including its Vice Chairperson Katrina Konina met Traditional
Industries and Small Enterprise Minister Douglas Devananda at his
ministry recently.
The minister briefed the delegation of the initiatives taken by the
government in respect of the development of domestic as well as Small
and Medium Scale industries to uplifting the living standards of those
engaged in them, under the Divi Neguma Programme, in accordance with the
Mahinda Chinthana vision for the future policy.
The minister also enlightened the delegation on the political
situation of the country and the development activities carried out by
the government in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.
The minister said the government was working out on a programme that
would go beyond the 13th Amendment to the Constitution to bring about a
permanent solution to the ethnic problem. However, some political
parties were lying to the international community about this manoeuvre
to disrupt it, the minister added.
David Vodrazka expressing his views on the industrial sector in Sri
Lanka said several companies in his country were willing to invest here
as well as extend to their technology for improvement of industries in
Sri Lanka and in the event it materialized, it certainly would
strengthen the trade relationship between the two countries.
Ministry Secretary V. Sivagnanasothy and Advisor to the Minister
Jegarasasingam also participated at this discussion.
