Kahawatte to be fully electrified

The Power and Energy Ministry has taken measures to supply electricity to the entire Kahawatte area which witnessed a number of murders during the recent past, Power and Energy Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekara said.

He was addressing the inauguration ceremony of the electricity project in Dimbulwala, Kahawatte.

"The wave of recent murders in this area brought fear to Kahawatte. The day to day activities, education and economic activities in this area were also badly affected due to these murders. Providing electricity to the whole area is one of the measures which have been taken to normalize the stressed situation in Kahawatte.

Hence, the government has decided to launch this electricity project in this area, "he added.

The human resource in a country is its most valuable resource.

Hence, the government of each country has a vital responsibility to protect and ensure security of the nation, Deputy Minister Jayasekara said.

This project has been launched by the "Vidulamu Lanka" project office and the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Deputy General Managers Office in Ratnapura with funds provided by Iran.

Around Rs.11 million will be spent on this project and this is to be completed within three days. Over 250 families will receive electricity through this project.
