Armed Forces Remembrance Day
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day was commemorated on November 11 at
the Cenotaph in Viharamaha Devi Park with Western Province Governor
Alavi Mowlana as the Chief Guest.
Admiral D B Gunasekara was the Guest of Honour.
The three Services were represented by the Chiefs of Staff Major
General Daya Ratnayaka, Rear Admiral Damayantha Dharmasiriwardena and
Air Vice Marshal K A Goonetilleke.
This was the 92nd Remembrance Day held to honour War Heroes who made
the supreme sacrifice in the defence of the motherland.
The ceremony commenced with the reading of ode in Sinhalese by
President, Captain Patrick Jayasinghe, in Tamil by Retired Army Warrant
Officer M H M Mulafer and in English by Hony Secretary General Brigadier
K A Gnanaweera.
This was followed by Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Christian prayers
held by the four religious dignitaries of each religion.
Diplomatic Corps retired and serving Senior Officers of the three
services, other dignitaries and the public was in attendance.
Commencing from the Chief Guest, the wreaths were laid as per the
programme.
The ceremony concluded with a march past by the three Services and
the group of Ex-Servicemen commanded by Lt Col M Amarakoon.
Executive Committee meeting
The Executive Committee meeting of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen's
Association will be held on Sunday at 10am at the SLESI Danturai Hall,
29, Bristol Street, Colombo 1.
The year ending fellowship will be followed by lunch at the end of
the meeting.
Ex-Artillery get-together
The Ceylon Artillery Association families get-together was held at
Wadduwa Holiday Resorts on November 18.
A musical and cultural show was provided by the Army band and the
Army cultural troop. |
