School closed following landslide threat

Balangoda Buddhajayanthi Primary school was closed indefinitely when a mound of earth fell on a three storied building of the school yesterday.

However, no injuries were reported to the students or staff of the school. There were around 600 students in the school. The decision to close the school was taken by the school authorities as there is a further risk of landslides, a spokesman for the Disaster Management Centre said.

Officials of Geological Survey and Mines Bureau and Disaster Management Centre visited the site yesterday following the incident.
