Sick teachers demand Technical Education Service Constitution

The teachers of 29 Technical Colleges and nine Colleges of Higher
Technology islandwide availed themselves on medical leave as an initial
part of their trade union action demanding higher education authorities
to expedite work on the Sri Lanka Technical Education Service
Constitution and to regulate cadre allocations of the service as agreed
with trade unions.
The Technical Education Teachers' Union had initiated the trade union
action. TETU Co-secretary L.W.A.Rathnasiri told the media that around
250 union members visited the Youth Affairs and Skill Development
ministry and had a discussion with ministry Secretary K.A.Thilakarathne
at which the latter promised a further discussion on December 5 at the
ministry to reach at a final decision over the disputed matters.
Accordingly, the union concluded their trade union action.
