The BIA Christmas Festival is being held as a collaborative effort
between concessionaires at BIA and the AASL.
The first Christmas Shopping Festival was held in 2010 and since
then, the Christmas Festival had become an annual event on a grand
scale.
"Every year we have grown and embarked on organizing this event on a
broader scale where our target market are passengers and tourists who
shop at our Duty Free Complex.
We not only promote our shopping to travellers, but we are also able
to win their confidence by holding this event annually," acting Head of
Marketing, Kaushali Munasinghe said.
Passengers who make sales transactions of US$10 or more at any of the
shops in the Departure/Transit area or Arrival Duty Free Complex, would
be entitled to enter the lucky draw, where 11 winners would be given the
opportunity to win the Grand Prize and ten exciting prizes.
"This is a golden era for the Aviation sector in our country and we
are taking major steps for industry expansion. We are taking a small
initiative to make Sri Lanka a shopping destination and our aim is to
popularize Sri Lanka among transit passengers and tourists and in turn,
support passengers who use the airport by rewarding them handsomely,"
Chairman, AASL Prasanna Wickramasuriya, said. The total value of prizes
on offer was Rs. 3 million.
The Grand prize is a Panda Cross brand new car, sponsored by Micro
Car Companies Ltd.
In addition to Grand Raffle prizes, passengers in the
Departure/Transit have been offered with an opportunity to win instant
prizes daily, by trying their luck at the "Wheel of Fortune." The total
value for the instant prizes on offer is Rs. 1.2 million. Nations Trust
Bank and Etisalat have also come on board as other main
sponsors of the event. Prasanna Wickramasuriya, Chairman, AASL said.
"We intend conducting cordial relations between the airport staff and
passengers and consequently contribute to the national economy," he
said.
