Construction to commence in six months:
India’s Trimax IT to invest Rs 3.5 bn in Technology Park at
Hambantota

Trimax IT Infrastructure and Services Ltd, India will invest a
staggering Rs. 3.5 billion to build a Saki Knowledge and Technology Park
in Hambantota. The construction of the complex would commence in six
months.

that the company will also open a regional office next week in Colombo
and another in Hambantota in two months time.

He said that Sri Lanka has one of the fasted growing economies in the
world and this was one reason for us to invest in Sri Lanka.
“We have investments is many countries and this is our biggest
overseas investment commitment,” he disclosed. “This investment is a for
a long term period and we hope to breakeven in five years,” he added.
The Saki Data Centre will provide shared, secured and managed
infrastructure for consolidating and hosting national level applications
with a view to provide government-to-government, government-to-citizen
and government-to-business services which would be fast, efficient,
trustworthy and also provide a managed environment for citizens and
businesses to conduct secure transactions.
This constructive Public Private Partnership between India and Sri
Lanka will facilitate the creation of a lasting legacy for Hambantota,
the district and the country as a whole. This will aid in promoting
social, economic regeneration as well as make Sri Lanka a technology hub
for all of Asia.
The signing ceremony between the two parties was held yesterday and
H. M. Gunasekara, Secretary, Ministry of Telecommunication said that
their target is to attract one billion IT related FDI to Sri Lanka by
2016. “We hope to attract a further 100 investors to this proposed 10
acre park by 2016,” he said.
He said that the concept of an IT park is a brain child of Namal
Rajapaksa MP.
M. M. C. Ferdinando, Chairman/Director General, Board of Investments
said that they would offer A special tax holiday and other incentives
mainly due to the high value of the investment.
Trimax comes with a vast experience in establishing, operating and
maintaining Data Centres for various government bodies and enterprise
sectors across India. Trimax had set up its first Data Centre, spanning
120,000 sq ft, in Bangalore with ITI Ltd. on a PPP model. Its clientele
in the Data Centre space ranges from Life Insurance Corporation of
India, for which Trimax has built 31 Data Centres for the Jammu &
Kashmir government, for which it is establishing a State Data Centre.
Trimax also has its own state-of-the-art Tier III Data Centre in Mumbai.
Trimax, a 156.8 million US $ company with 11 offices, 600+ support
locations and over 1,600 employees in India is making a total investment
of around Rs 3,500 million towards the Saki Data Centre project.
