Adam clinches Swedish Golf Classic
S M Jiffrey Abdeen-Kandy Sports Corr at Victoria
Adam Kristofferson who came all the way from Halmstead, Sweden won
the tenth annual Swedish Golf Classics 2012 while Bo Lindberg won the
Rolf's Cup at the Swedish Golf Classics organized by Swedish Community
in Sri Lanka and the Victoria Golf and Country Resort and worked off at
the beautiful Victoria golf course at Rajawella off Kandy today.
As usual a very large number of golfers with the majority being from
the foreign climes took the field on a course which was challenging with
its rich growth of grass helped by the rains.
The golfers from abroad were amazed by the condition of the golf
course and paid glowing tributes to the General Manager Errel Johnston,
and the Course Manager Indu Rodrigo and the support staff.
Consular General for Sweden Neel Selvanayagam was the Chief Guest and
he distributed the main award along with Per Cramborn, Veinert Holm, Ms
Indira Tibblin, Marie Kristofferson, Errol Johnston, and Rolf Tibbling.
Adam Kristofferson from Sweden carried away the ‘plum’ by winning the
Swedish Classic trophy with a Net score of 37 – a score which was
equalled by that versatile lady golfer Suwen Selvaratnam and both
golfers played to a handicap of ten. This deadlock was broken on a count
back on the last nine holes which saw Adam Kristofferson getting 9:19
and Suwen Selvaratnam 9:17. It was a very close tussle and it prevented
the repetition of last year's sensation of a lady winning the event for
the first time.
Adam Kristofferson, a logistic executive by profusion said that he
first came to Victoria, a few years back and he was so much taken up
with the beauty of the place and the excitement that the golf offered
that he immediately became a member of the club.
The next major championship title was the Rolf's Cup for Senior
golfers over 65 years and this was won Swede Bo Lindberg getting a Net
score of 33 playing to a handicap of 19 and he was challenged to this
title by Hiran Senaviratne who played to a handicap of 24. On a count
back on the last nine holes Bo Lindberg was ahead by the thinnest of
margins 9:16 to 9:15.
