Horana Illeba woman murder case:
Heavy punishment on two accused

Panadura Provincial High Court Judge Kusala Saroganee Weerawardena
imposed heavy punishment on two accused who pleaded guilty to the
indictment of committing murder of a woman at Illeba, Horana by shooting
her.
The first accused Iswarage Ranjith alias Illeba Ranjith, a hard core
criminal who had previous convictions was sentenced to 15 years rigorous
imprisonment and fined Rs. 5,000. In addition, he was sentenced to one
year’s imprisonment and fined Rs. 100,000. He was also ordered to pay Rs.
50,000 to the children of the deceased.
The second accused Thalapath Pitiyage Chaminda Jagath Kumara was
sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000.
He was ordered to pay Rs 50,000 to the children of the accused.
Both accused were indicted by the Attorney General with committing
the murder of Don Asilin (52) of Illebe, Horana by entering her house
and shooting her dead on June 16, 2002 night. State Counsel Indika
Nilumini prosecuted. |
