Muharram celebrations
The Muharram celebrations organised by the A J M Muzammil Foundation
and the Kantha Saviya Women's Organisation will be held today at 3pm at
the Moors Islamic Cultural Hall, Dematagoda Road, Colombo 9.
Colombo Mayor A J M Muzammil will be the Chief Guest.
Sharddhanjalee on SLBC
The Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation Sinhala National Service will
present WK Sarath Wimalasiri on the Shraddhanjalee programme on November
27 from noon to 12.45pm.
He will make an analytical presentation of the songs composed based
on various themes in Buddhist literature.
He will also present his views on lyrics, singing and music on topics
under discussion.
The programme is produced by Rohana Dharmakeerthi and presented by
Dinusha Wettasinghe.
AGM
The Sri Lanka Women Lawyers' Association will hold its 50th Annual
General Meeting on November 25 at 9.00 am at the Hotel Cinnamon Grand.
The website of SLWLA, www.slwla.org, will be launched by First Lady
Shiranthi Rajapaksa.
A felicitation ceremony will be held in honour of past presidents of
the association prior to the Annual General Meeting.

L G Singers at Chapel
The L G Singers will be singing at Bethel Chapel of the Seventh-day
Adventists, 7, Alfred House Gardens, Kollupitiya on December 7 at 6.45
pm. The service will include 16 Carols presented by the singers.
Heart patent seeks help
Heart patient D W D C Ranjith Abeywardhana of Horana Road, Dediyawela,
Waskaduwa, Kalutara North is receiving treatment at the National
Hospital and needs to undergo a bypass operation.
The operation will cost Rs 560,000.
Abeywardhana's family is unable to foot the bill and requests public

Abeyaratne elected to LAWASIA Executive Committee
Eighteen delegates from the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL)
participated in the 25th LAWASIA Annual Conference in Bali, Indonesia
which ended yesterday, the Mass Media Ministry said in a release.
Sunil D B Abeyaratne, nominee of the Bar Association was elected to
the Executive Committee of LAWASIA for the ensuing year.
Abeyaratne is a law lecturer and a practicing lawyer and was the BASL
Secretary from 2006 to 2008.
LAWASIA is the Law Association for the Asia Pacific Region. BASL is
also a member association of the same. LAWASIA is a UN recognised body
and its main role is to protect Human Rights, maintain rule of law and
economic growth of the region.
UK, Germany and the American Bar Association are also members of
LAWASIA, The impeachment motion against the Chief Justice was also
discussed at the Exco and Council levels of the Association. The
Resolution passed by the BASL and tabled at the meetings were appraised
by members. |
