Special Committee to probe sexual harassment

The Health Ministry will set up Special Disciplinary Committees in every institute attached to the ministry to enable married as well as unmarried female employees to make their complains with regard to any sexual harassment they face from their seniors.

Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena has ordered to establish these special committees as about ten complaints are received by the ministry daily on sexual harassment and abuses faced by female employees of the department, a high official of the Health Ministry stated.

Dr. A. Priyadarshana, the Assistant DMO in Kurunegala told the Daily News that these complaints would be inquired into and if the offenders are found to be guilty, they would be referred to the Police for legal action.
