Man convicted for killing wild elephant

A man was fined by a Muttur Court after he was convicted for killing a wild elephant in the Mahawa Zone near Trincomalee.

B.G. Sunil of Sumedhankarapura in the Serunuwara area had killed a wild elephant by means of an electrified wire line and local Wildlife Conservation Department officials had brought charges against him in Court. Wildlife officials told the Magistrate in Muttur M P Razak that the accused had, by killing the wild elephant, violated the fauna and flora protection law of the country.
