Tennis Champions in the Negombo Region Inter-school Tennis

charge and coach. Both Ashantha de Mel and Rajiva Wijetunge
accounted for
more than (50) wickets each during the 1979 season. Ranjan
Madugalle scored more than (1000) runs and became the
‘Observer Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year’. Coach Gamini
Salgado is the oldest living captain of Royal College. Here

Lake House athletes win 13 medals
Shyam sets three new meet records
Athletes who represented Associated Newspapers of Ceylon
Ltd. (Lake House) excelled at the recently concluded
Mercantile Athletic Championship, winning five gold medals,
six silver medals and two bronze medals. Shyam Kumara won
three gold medals, winning the mens 1500m, 800m and 400m
with three new meet records. Udula Peiris won gold medals in
the womens 400m hurdles and 100m hurdles and was placed
third in the 200m final. P K P I Namasiri won a silver medal
in the mens 400m an also a bronze in the 100m event while
Nishshanka, Shyam, Namasiri and Sudasinghe teamed up to win
the silver medal in the mens 4x400m event. Picture by Sudam
