Boy drowns in water pit
M.A.R. Manukulasooriya- Hiriyala group correspondent
An 11-year-old boy who fell into an abandoned water pit while running
after his pet calf, died. The boy was W.S.M. Akila Gimhana Kulasooriya
of Bulugahayaya, Melsiripura.
He was a grade five student of Namalanga Maha Vidyalaya.
Public talk
Das Meeriyagalle will deliver a public talk in English on ‘The

Bodhi Puja to bless Thai king
The Sri Lanka-Thailand Society will perform Bodhi Puja and Pirith

under the patronage of Thailand Ambassador Poldej Worachat.
First Gamunu Watch Golden Jubilee
A series of events has been organized to mark the 50th anniversary of
the first Gamunu Watch that falls on December 7.

NILIS Research Symposium
NILIS Research Symposium 2012, organized by the National Institute of
Library and Information Services (NILIS), University of Colombo, will be
held at the Sri Lanka Foundation today and tomorrow. The theme of the
symposium is ‘Changing Library Strategies for the New Generation of
Users'.
Prof. Shalini Urs, Executive Director and Professor, International
School of Information Management, University of Mysore, will deliver the
keynote address titled ‘Repositioning Libraries and Libraries at the

Sujatha Fiesta
Sujatha Fiesta 2012 will be held at Janakala Centre, Battaramulla on

HR course inauguration
The inauguration of the six month Distance Learning Advanced
Certificate in Human Rights Approach to Prison Administration conducted
by the Centre for the Study of Human Rights (CSHR), University of
Colombo, will be held on November 22 at 9.30 am at the Auditorium of the
Faculty of Graduate Studies. The course is funded by the Equal Access to
Justice Project, UNDP.
Workshop
A workshop on measures to minimize post harvest wastage of tea,
organized by the Tea Research Institute will be held at the Hector
Kobbekaduwa Agricultural Research and Training Institute tomorrow at 9
am.

Death of I W A H B Palipana
I W A H P Palipana who worked in the Lake House Proof Reading
Department for about 25 years has passed away.
Palipana, who graduated from the University of Sri Jayawardenepura
and also worked as a teacher at Homagama Maha Vidyalaya before his
employment at Lake House, was 88 years old at the time of his death.
He leaves his wife Mrs. Dhammika Palipana, a retired school teacher,
and three children Consultant Dental Surgeon, Dr. Priyakedheera, Dhanika
and Priyadhi. The funeral takes place at the Nawala Cemetery at 5 pm
today. Cortege leaves No 2, Nanda Mawatha (off Nawala Road) at 4.30 p.m.
