Five years’ RI for fratricide

An accused who pleaded guilty to committing the murder of his elder brother by hitting him with a club after consuming liquor together, was sentenced to five years rigorous’ imprisonment and fined Rs 15,000 by Kegalle High Court judge Menaka Wijesundera on Tuesday.

He was also sentenced to a further one year prison term in default of the fine. In this case, Jayakody Arachchige Thushara Prabath of Ruwanwella was indicted with the murder of his elder brother Jayakody Arachchige Sunil Jayakody by hitting him with a club on June 10, 2007. Attorney Chaminda Athukorale prosecuted and Attorney-at-law Titus Manatunga appeared for the defence.
