'Grero' does it again
PRIYADARSHANI KAHAWALA, Ingiriya Central Group cor
Two suspects wanted in connection with the Bulathsinhala triple
murder were arrested yesterday thanks to the detection prowess of the
Police mastiff Grero.
This is the second arrest made by Horana Police within one month with
Grero's assistance. In the previous case, the mastiff led the Police to
a saw mill and eventually to the arrest of three burglars. The killings
took place on Tuesday in Halwathura Watta, Udahenawatta in
Bulathsinhala. Immediately after the incident, the Police deployed Grero
of the Horana Police Kennel in a bid to apprehend the assailants.
Grero was brought to the scene of the murder of M A Pranandu, 96, M
Magilin, 85, and H Dharmasiri, 62, at their house in Halwathurawatte.
The dog immediately picked up a trail from part of a tool used by the
assailants, eventually leading the Police to a house 100 metres from the
scene of the crime. Two youths in the house were arrested.
Police believe robbery to be the motive for the triple murder.
Matugama Additional Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura conducted
investigations and returned an open verdict. The bodies were sent to the
Nagoda Hospital. Bulathsinghala Police are conducting investigations.
