Cleric acquitted in murder case

Warnakulasuriya Ignatius Noel Rover, a member of clergy attached to
the Warakapola Mahena Christian Church was acquitted of all charges and
discharged by Kegalle Provincial High Court judge Menaka Wijesundera in
an alleged attempted murder case on November 19.
In this case, Warakapola Police indicted Warnakulasuriya Ignatius
Noel Rover of the attempted murder of Sunil Parakrama Amaradivakara of
Mahena, Warakapola by shooting and causing injury to him around 8.20pm
on January 26, 2002.
The case heard in the Warakapola magistrate court was later referred
to the Kegalle Provincial High Court by the Attorney General.
Earlier, Attorney Titus Manatunga who defended the accused submitted
that there were contradictions and inconsistencies in the JMO report.
Thereafter, the Warakapola Police in a letter to the Warakapola
magistrate court submitted that they could not proceed with the case.
