Bharatha killing: 17 suspects further remanded

Colombo Additional Magistratte Prasanna Alwis yesterday further
remanded until December 4, 2012, the 17 suspects who had been remanded
in connection with the killing of Presidential Trade Union Advisor and
former Colombo District Parliamentarian Baratha Lakshman Premachnadra.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) ASP Shani Abeysekera who
appeared for the prosecution with Chief Inspector Ranga Lamahewa told
court that they have completed the investigations into the killing at
the Mulleriya and had forwarded the dossier of the investigations to the
Attorney General for his advice.
Answering President’s Counsel Jayantha Weerasinghe, senior counsel
for some of the suspects, ASP Shani Abeysekera said that a Senior State
Counsel of the Attorney General’s Department is handling this case.
The special CID team deployed by the DIG CID had recovered two T 56
weapons, two pistols, two revolvers and questioned 37 persons who were
present at the scene on the day of the incident .
