Religious ceremonies were held in Sri
Lanka and overseas to bless President Mahinda
Rajapaksa on his 67th birthday. Above: The Sri Lanka Embassy
in Bangkok with the participation of the Sri Lanka
Association in Thailand organised religious observances at
Yannawa Temple. The event commenced on November 18 morning
with a Bodhi Pooja,
followed by other religious observances. The Sri Lankan
community and Thai devotees
participated. Alms for 67 monks including Sri Lankan monks
too were offered to coincide
with the event. Monks chanted pirith to invoke blessings on
the President. Ambassador
Gen Shantha Kottegoda thanked the Thai Buddhist monks who
volunteered to conduct
the religious observances, management of Yannawa Temple and
the Sri Lankans for their
