It has been decided to revive the Mahailluppallama government farm
which has been neglected, and whole seed requirements of the district to
be produced again here.
This was decided at the Anuradhapura District Development Committee
(DDC) meeting recently.
The DDC meeting was held at the North Central Provincial Council
auditorium with the participation of Wildlife Conservation and Agrarian
Services Deputy Minister S M Chandrasena and North Central Province
Chief Minister S M Ranjith as co-chairmen.
This decision was reached following complaints at the meeting that
seeds in general being provided for home gardening under the Divi Neguma
were not fertile.
The co-chairmen agreed to provide financial allocations to revive the
Mahailluppallma farm by the Agrarian Services Department and the North
Central Provincial Council.
With regard to issues of agriculture development, tank renovation,
water management problems and invasion of tank beds and reservations
pointed out by farmer representatives and government officials, the DDC
authorities said top priority will be given to protect, rehabilitate and
preserve tank networks.
Deputy Minister Chandrasena said he will take up the issues with the
Cabinet, especially Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
Chief Minister Ranjith said an efficient and productive methodology
will be executed to liberate farmer communities from their problems,
especially land disputes and discrepancies for nearly six decades.
He said he has been negotiating with relevant agencies including the
Land Ministry in this regard.
