Wheat, dry fish unfit for human consumption seized
Athapattu Bandara
The Consumer Affairs Authority seized more than 1000 kilogrammes of
wheat flour and 700 kilogrammes of dry fish unsuitable for human
consumption in a special raid carried out at Fifth Lane in Colombo Fort
yesterday.
The seized consignment was to be re-branded after changing the expiry
and manufactured dates, the CAA officials said. Internal Trade and
Cooperative Minister Johnston Fernando has geared the CAA to conduct
raids throughout the year without restricting them to the festive season
to detect irregularities.
The raids will be increased during the upcoming festive season as
traders are tempted to deceive consumers.
