Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha commends President Rajapaksa

The Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha at its monthly meeting held recently,
passed a resolution commending President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the UPFA
government for introducing a new Act to end the preferential system of
voting.
The Chairman Jayantha Rohana (UPFA) presenting the motion said that
we should be grateful to Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, the Chairman of
the Parliamentary Select Committee who was appointed to reform the
election law, for the untiring efforts taken by him to win the support
of all political parties to pass the Act. He appreciated the role played
by members of the committee, ministers as well as all Parliamentarians
for and against the government, for their valuable contributions to make
it a success. The Chairman further thanked the Maha Sangha and the
intellectuals for submitting recommendations for the reforms.
He also thanked the Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe for the
co-operation extended by him, to pass the Act in Parliament.
PS Opposition leader Jayantha Ranawake (UNP) welcoming the resolution
said that merely passing it would not suffice. "We have a lot of work to
do in the future to implement it. Let us therefore unitedly work hard to
achieve the goal of Village Development through the new Act" he said.
The motion was passed.
