Compensation for Mullativu, Killinochchi businessmen

Over 30 members of the business community in the Mullativu and
Killinochchi district whose property was damaged due to the conflict
received compensation worth over Rs. 67 million yesterday on the
directive of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
They received their cheques at a ceremony at the Finance Ministry
auditorium under the patronage of Economic Development Minister Basil
Rajapaksa.
These businessmen who had taken insurance cover which included the
coverage from the risk arising out of Srike, Riots, Civil Commotion and
Terrorist activities (SRCC&T) had appealed President Mahinda Rajapaksa
to pay them compensation under the SRCC&T fund of the National Insurance
Trust Fund. The President had ordered the Trust Fund to make the
compensation payments on humanitarian grounds as the claimants have
failed to fulfill certain requirements for such payment.
Minister Rajapaksa who has taken a great interest in providing relief
to these entrepreneurs also instructed the National Insurance Trust Fund
to make their payments early.
The Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka also
took a keen interest in settling these claims. Deputy Finance Minister
Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera ,
National Insurance Trust Fund Chairman D. Vidanagamachchi and Working
Director W.H. Piyadasa were present at the ceremony.
