MAS Holdings held its Annual 'Empowered Woman of the Year' Awards on
November 16, for the 9th consecutive year and witnessed 39 Empowered
Women from MAS plants in Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh being
recognized and applauded by an audience consisting of MAS Board Members,
Management, Colleagues and family members, as well as special invitees
who had supported the objectives of the event.
The Chief Guest was Prof. Asvini Fernando, President of the Sri Lanka
College of Paediatricians and a Board Member of the National Child
Protection Authority of Sri Lanka.
The Awards ceremony, which forms an important part in the MAS annual
calendar, comes under the "Rewarding Excellence" pillar of the MAS Women
Go Beyond Programme, which had been launched in 2003. The programme aims
to recognize and assist women in the roles they play in today's society
through focused schemes for advancement in their careers, skills
development, balancing work and life and being rewarded for their
excellence.
MAS had also initiated a campaign under the banner of "Say no to
violence" that would commence on November 25, which is the International
Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women. That would continue for
ten days where all MAS plants would conduct activities to generate an
understanding and awareness of this project. "Orange Day" was to be
announced on the 25th of each month, in order to keep the significance
of this occasion in progress. "This Award Ceremony made me realize that
great stories of success and leaderships existed not far from us. They
are right here at MAS. Over the past several years, we have found
champions who rose above the destitution in life and have become
empowered women and we are utterly proud of them.
Strong and confident women who dared to dream and who dared to set
challenging goals, stayed focused in achieving these goals. I would also
like to emphasize that these women have had strong cooperation from
their family members and I believe that is critical for success," Ajay
Amalean, Group Director of MAS Holdings said. |
