Mysterious death
Theldeniya Police commenced an investigation into the death of a
31-year-old man whose body was found in an area belonging to Mahaweli
Authority in Digana on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as D M
Sumith Karunasiri of Rajawella, Digana. The magisterial inquest was
carried out by the Teldeniya magistrate.
Initial investigations by the chief judicial medical officer of the
Kandy hospital revealed the victim had been electrocuted although the
location where the body was found was not hazardous.
Attempted illegal
migration foiled
Eight residents of Negombo, Kalkuda and Kalawanchikudi who were
waiting in a lodge in Mandachchimadam in Kalawanchikudi with the
intention of illegally migrating to Australia via a sea route were
arrested by the Kalawanchikudi Police when they raided the location
following a tip off received on Saturday. The suspects were produced in
Batticaloa magistrate court yesterday.
Probe on skeleton

Bingiriya Police acting on information by a resident in Bingiriya
found parts of a human skeleton, a curtain, a torn T shirt, two pillows
and a crow bar in an abandoned toilet at a house in Thiyogama, Kajuhena
on Friday. The Hettipola magistrate have commenced the magisterial
inquest. Bingiriya Police are investigating.
Two remanded in
assault on doctor
Two suspects who had been arrested for allegedly assaulting the
Assistant Estate Doctor on duty in Batalgala estate dispensary in Dikoya
and attempting to rob his necklace and bracelet have been remanded until
November 20 by Hatton magistrate. Hatton Police reported that the two
suspects had allegedly entered the dispensary forcibly and dragged the
doctor out of the premises before assaulting him.
Arrested with Sudol
A suspect was sent to remand until November 30 by the Negombo
magistrate for possessing 7,100 tablets of banned drug, Sudol. Seeduwa
Police arrested him following information received on Saturday at his
home in Ja Ela.
Russians remanded
The CID on Friday arrested five Russian Nationals at Wellawatte for
illegally withdrawing money from ATMs using forged credit cards.
The CID also seized 250 forged credit cards, six lap top computers,
two encoding machines, two WiFi routers and Rs 2.5 million from their
possession. The suspects have been remanded until November 30 when
produced before Hulftsdorp No 3 magistrate court. The CID is
investigating. |
