Kidnap attempt foiled

Two suspects who attempted to kidnap a five - year - old girl while in school were caught and handed over to the Police by the people in the area on Thursday.

One suspect who arrived in a lorry entered the school and attempted to kidnap the girl when people in the vicinity caught him. The suspects are residents of Moratuwa and Bandaragama.

Meerigama Police are investigating.


Unidentified body found

Dedigama Police seek public assistance to identify a man who died at Warakapola District Hospital while receiving treatment.

He was admitted after found lying at Kahadeniya, Nelumdeniya on Wednesday.

Police said he had taken poison when they found him.

The man about 5'6" in height appears to be between 50 and 55 years.


Mother and son die in accident

A mother and her son were killed when the three wheeler they were traveling, went down a precipice at Karandagolla, Bandarawela on Thursday.

M D Bebinona, 72, and her son K Senaviratne, 52, who was driving the three wheeler died in the accident.

Investigations are continuing.


Suspect arrested with illegally felled timber

Wariyapola Police arrested a man while transporting a stock of illegally felled timber in a lorry on Thursday.

The stock of timber included 21 teak logs, five Halmilla logs and 10 Athdemata logs.

The suspect, a resident of Kolambageara was produced before Wariyapola magistrate and released on bail.


Easy money leads to jail

Boralesgamuwa Police arrested a suspect who stole a cheque for Rs 350,000 from the place he was working following a complaint lodged by the employer. The suspect on interrogation told the Police he cashed the cheque at a bank in Boralesgamuwa and redeemed a bracelet he pawned. He had used the balance money to buy a mobile phone. The Police seized the goods from his possession.

He was produced before the Gangodawila magistrate yesterday.


Suspect arrested with loot

Moratuwa Police arrested a suspect who broke into a hardware shop in Katubedda and stole items worth Rs 134,579 on November 8.

The stolen items were seized from his possession.

He was produced before the Moratuwa magistrate yesterday.


Two arrested with T56

Koswatte Police arrested two suspects with a T56 weapon yesterday.

Police stopped the motorcycle they were riding and found the weapon in a sack with the pillion rider. Investigations revealed that the suspects had carried out a series of burglaries at gun point in Marawila, Koswatte and Wennappuwa on several occasions including a rape incident in a house.

Police recovered part of the stolen goods from their possession. Koswatte Police are investigating.
