Ceremonies to mark President’s birthday
A special religious ceremony organised by the Child Development and
Women’s Affairs Ministry will be held at Wattappala, Mullaithivu
tomorrow to mark President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s birthday.
The religious ceremony to invoke blessing on the President, the
people and the country will be held with the participation of Child
Development and Women’s Affairs Minister Tissa Karaliyadde.
The Coconut Development and Janatha Estate Development Ministry will
plant coconut saplings under the Kapruka Ruk Ropana programme at
Kemannandaramaya, Baduluwela, Bandarawadiya and Madulla at 8am with the
participation of Minister A P Jagath Pushpakumara, Education Deputy
Minister Gamini Vijith Vijayamuni Soysa, MP Vijitha Berugoda and
Ministry Secretary Nihal Somaweera. This will be held to mark the
President’s birthday.
The Sri Lanka Social Security Board in collaboration with the
Bogahawatte Grama Niladari Division will conduct a mobile service
tomorrow at the Provincial Secretariat of Maharagama as part of the
President’s birthday celebrations and completion of the second year of
the second term of Presidency.
The mobile service will pay special attention to enlist those
eligible to be included in the pension scheme, pension payments,
reactivate the membership of those who have been deactivated and
awarding of free spectacles to senior citizens. A special lecture will
also be delivered on ‘The Responsibility of Parents with regard to the
Protection of Children’. The event is organised on the directive of
Attorney -at- Law and former director of the Sri Lanka Social Security
Board Saman Ariyadasa.
Sri Lanka Fisheries Corporation has organised a religious discourse
by Ven Marapana Vijith Maha Nayake Thera and the distribution of sil
clothes at the Kalutara Bo Tree premises on November 20 from 2pm to mark
President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s birthday.
The event is organised on the directive of Fisheries and Aquatic
Resources Development Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne.
The Public Relations and Public Affairs Ministry has organised
several events to mark the birthday of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and
the completion of the second year of the second term of office of
Presidency.
Public Relations and Public Affairs Minister Mervyn Silva will cut
the first sod to construct the new bridge at the Maternity Clinic at old
Kandy Road tomorrow at 9.45am. Minister Silva will also open the
Kelaniya -Himbutiwelgoda Chittha Training College at 10am.
He will also distribute public address systems among religious places
at 3pm and also participate in a special Ashirwada Pooja at Vidyalankara
Pirivena Kelaniya at 4.30pm. He will participate in a special religious
ceremony at the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya at 5pm.
Commissioning, passing out parade
A commissioning and passing out parade will be held at the main
parade ground of the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) in Trincomalee
today under the patronage of Navy Commander Vice Admiral Jayanath
Colombage. The Sri Lanka Navy Media Unit said 59 officers, including 47
midshipmen of the 50th Intake of the NMA, eight officers of the Direct
Entry fourth Intake 2011 Officer Category and four officers of the
Direct Entry second Intake 2012 Officer Category will pass out.
Bodhi pooja
The Sri Lanka – Thailand Society will conduct a Bodhi Pooja and a
Pirith chanting ceremony at Gangaramaya, Colombo 2 on December 3 at
5.30pm to invoke blessings on Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej on his 85th
birthday.
It will be held under the patronage of Thai ambassador Poldej
Worachat and his wife Kanyarat Worachat.
Career fair in Hatton
The Plantation Communities Project, phase II of World University
Service of Canada is organising a mega career fair on November 25 at D K
W Cultural Hall, Hatton. The fair aims to increase employment
opportunities for youths from the region, especially in the plantation
sector. Both Sri Lankan and foreign employers have signed up to meet
with potential youths at the career fair.
The industries are mainly tourism, hotel, information technology,
apparels, banking and employment opportunities within their
organisations varies as accounting, dress making, machine operations,
marketing, reception, customer care, etc. WUSC-PCP II invited youths to
come prepared with their curriculum vitae and meet employers. The
platform also creates opportunities such as information on vocational
training, agriculture and business development services and marketing
strategies. |
